When I Die
Written for the funeral of Ellafair Elkins - June 24, 2004
By Pastor Ronnie Wolfe

When I die, it will be like a peddle falling from a rose.
It will be like a leaf falling from a tree or a ripple flowing from the river.
It will be like a fruit being picked from a tree or a grape being plucked from the vine.
It will be like frost on a cold morning fading as the sun arises and touches it.
It will be like fog dissipating as the twilight brightens into a new day.
It will be like wind passing by and going to a place where only God knows.

Come, go with me to a place, a place of sweet surrender,
Where eternal breezes blow that soothe the immortal soul,
Where streets of gold glitter in the brightness of the Son of God,
Where saints never grow old and blessings are new the entire eternal day.
This is a land that is fairer than day, a day that is longer than time,
A life that is more real than reality, an existence that has no end.
This is a place of promise, a place of glory, a place of grace and mercy.
This is a place of comfort, an inheritance that shall never fade away,
Reserved for those who are kept by God’s power unto the eternal day.

Come, dear Lord, and marry me and carry me away into your bosom.
Take me where I shall ever be with you, Lord.
Come, take my body away as a thief in the night.
Make me new and give me a body like yours
To worship and praise you forever in Beulah Land.
When I die, I will leave good folks behind.
They will be folks whom I have loved, people who cared for me.
They will be friends who have prayed for me and helped me and encouraged me.
They will be family who cared and did not want me to leave them.
They will be lonely and afraid when I die.
They will weep when I die. They will sorrow when I die,
But not without hope, I think, for they shall know where I am going.

Thank you, Lord, for the promise: the promise to save me upon faith in Jesus,
The promise to keep me and comfort me with your Spirit,
The promise to take me to be with you in those mansions you have prepared.
Thank you for a Savior who died for me and gave Himself in life and death for me.
Thank you for his resurrection that gives me hope in a new glorified body made perfect
Like unto your glorious body. Let me long for that which you have promised to me.
Be kind and loving to my family and friends, Lord, who will sorrow when I die.
Give them strength to live on and remember my love for them.

Praise your name for death, for it is precious to you, Lord.
Praise your name for your salvation, for it has made this death sweet to me and to you.
May others come to this place. May others see Jesus today.
May they take his salvation by faith and pursue that path of life prompted by grace.
May they believe and be sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise.
May they know when I die that I am safe in Heaven and await their coming.
Touch them, Lord; show them, Lord. Be gracious to my friends this day, Lord. Amen.
